Guiding with Passion from Upper Dolpo to Explore Dolpo Treks

Nima Gurung’s story is a fusion of determination, love for his homeland, and a passion for sharing its beauty. Hailing from Nepal’s remote Upper Dolpo region, Nima’s aspirations led him to Cinematography studies at Oscar College. Financial setbacks altered his course, but his connection to Upper Dolpo remained strong.

Now a trekking guide and sales/corresponding manager at Explore Dolpo Treks and Expeditions, Nima introduces global adventurers to his picturesque homeland. His infectious enthusiasm bridges cultures, turning each expedition into an immersive experience.

Beyond guiding, Nima dreams of driving sustainable development through local crafts and social enterprises, nurturing both the region’s economy and cultural heritage. Nima Gurung epitomizes resilience, showcasing that when passion and purpose converge, extraordinary journeys unfold.

Bishnu Chandra Dangi

Bishnu is from Dangiwnada Juphal, is serving as a cook for the trekkers in Dolpo region. He has long experience of trekking. He is a professional and all seven brothers are also in the same trade. He is a school graduate. He can speak some other languages apart from Nepali. Though he is a cook he can guide the people to their destinations.

Chimey Sangmo

Chimey Sangmo is a graduate student from Dolpo. She financed her high school in India and joined her bachelor’s in Kathmandu, Nepal. She is a native of Dolpo.

Chimey is our youngest member.

She joined in 2023 May as an assistant manager at Explore Dolpo Trek. She will be assisting our Correspondence manager and Managing Director in dealing with clients and services.

Jitendra Jhankri

Born and schooled at Dolpo, Jitendra Jhankri, the Managing Director of the company belongs to the far-flung Magar village Sahar Tara in Tichu Rong Valley in Dolpo. Son of a traditional businessman based in Dunai, Dolpo’s headquarters Jitendra Jhankri is a very well known name in Dolpo. He began his career as tourism entrepreneur almost decade ago with CG Trekking Stores which was opened to serve the Dolpa-pa (the people of Dolpo) by giving them opportunities to serve more tourists in the region.

Passang Dadhul Gurung

Passang Dadhul Gurung, originally from upper Dolpo, has emerged as an exceptional figure in the trekking realm. After completing his education at Namgyal Higher Secondary and Xavier International College, where he studied social science, Passang harnessed his linguistic talents in Tibetan, English, Nepali, and the local Dolpo dialect. Presently, he thrives as a trekking guide with diverse responsibilities, primarily focused on fieldwork. Passang’s vibrant attitude and devoted nature underscore his commitment to his role, ensuring trekkers have an enlightening and secure experience. His journey exemplifies the convergence of education, passion, and diligence in creating a profound impact.

Jigmey Lodey Gurung

Mr Jigmey Lodey Gurung is from upper Dolpo Saldang, he started to work in tourism sector as a guide in this office since 2016. He had started his education at Namdoling monastery till the shedra 1st year. He speaks Tibetan, English, upper & lower Dolpo language, Nepali and Hindi. He is a very hard working person and he is very sincere towards his duty.

Mr. Nawang Namgyal Lama

Mr. Nawang Namgyal is a energetic and enthusiastic staff of the company. He has completed his bachelor degree in business administration. He has an experience of about 5 years in travel and tourism trade. It has been couple of years he is associated with our company.

Karma Gurung

Karma an inhabitant of Simen village of Upper Dolpo is one of the experienced and the senior most local guide who had accompanied Erik Valley for Caravan film making. He can speak the Dolpo language (Khaam), Nepali and English. He holds a good knowledge of trek and trails in whole Dolpo region.
