The high trail from Dho Tarap to Kagbeni – Dolpo Jomsom Trek
“The trail from Dho Tarap, the trading center of Dolpo to Kagbeni, the gateway to Upper Mustang is beyond doubt the most challenging section of trekking adventure across the world. Trekkers suggest avoiding the trek other way around because of the rapid rise of elevation and that is true.”
The rapid rise in elevation without sufficient acclimatization triggers higher possibility of acute mountain sickness resulting to abort the trek or even the adverse impact on the health of the trekker.
“After all the delightful highlights of Lower and Upper Dolpo trekkers’ sight during Dolpo to Jomsom Trek, they eventually arrive at Dho Tarap. From Dho Tarap the journey unfolds extreme remoteness and the elevated passes as the trek traverses through the trails lying in the rain shadow of bedazzling Dhaulagiri.”
This section of the trek not only caters the rawness of nature but also goes across the elevated abandoned passes, where the sign of human settlements are very rare. The Dolpo to Mustang Trek is meant for professional avid trekkers because of this section, where three 5000m plus passes are the hurdles during eight to nine days trek.
“Trekking along the high trail from Dho Tarap, the rise of elevation is so rapid until the trekkers slide down from the acme of Jhyarkoi La Pass, which is 5360m high. Like the waves in the ocean, the ascending walk will soon follow descending down for a while to another elevated pass Mo La 5030m. Traversing across the popular summer settlement of the region, Chharka Bhot, the trail to Kagbeni chases the steep uphill climb to the top of Jungben La Pass 5550m before descending down steeply to Kagbeni via Upper Mustang.”
