The region with no known peak for elevation Dolpo, is a time forgotten isolated piece of heaven in the west Nepal which highlights its unique landscapes and ancient Tibetan culture. With the developments made in Juphal Airport this restricted region which demands special permit from the Nepalese Government to explore, now has become a center of attraction for domestic and foreign tourists.
Dolpo is by now recognized for the latter-day gold rush of the medicinal interest yarsagumba, but for sustainability the necessity is of inquisitive, adventurous and enthusiastic trekkers who will soon be booming the economy of the region. The veiled secrets of Dolpo have started to stand out intensely – the gems, like the colorful natives, magnificent landscapes, mystifying canyons, cliff-hanging monasteries and translucent streams. The Himalayan Peaks like Kanjiroba shimmer on the skyline, their glaciers and tumbling ice fields are eye feasting views which are truly mesmerizing and uplift the spirit throughout the trek in Dolpo.
Dolpo was in ancient days was a part of the Ngari dominion of Tibet. Though Dolpo has succeeded in avoiding the unstable past of its flanking neighbors, its cultural heritages are undoubtedly as old as the ones of ancient Tibetan Kingdoms. The clans of some natives in Jumla and Upper Mustang have influenced and ruled this arid, windswept land in the past. Today Dolpo is a property of Government of Nepal.
