This trek follows a less travelled trail. This long trek offers you exotic and myriad cultural experiences, coupled with interesting landscape that ranges from the verdant greenery in the lower reaches to an arid and dry one in the higher reaches.

As the actual trek starts from Bheri zone and ends in Karnali zone, the climate also changes as the trek progresses. We start from a hot and temperate zone and reach a colder zone as we ascend up. By the end of the trek we descend again to the hot and temperate zone.

We travel overland by jeep, passing some interesting Tharu villages. From Chaurjari to Dolpa the route passes through interesting villages with terraced fields and Hindu shrines.

Some of the highlights of this trek include the visit to theinteresting village of Chaurjahari where the inhabitants follow their own unique customs, Phoksundo Lake nature tour, view of Sulighat waterfall, visits to old Bon monasteries, Kagmara pass, Khalanga Bazaar of Jumla and Gothi Chaur.trekking is lengthy but interesting because of different types of communities.it starts from bheri zone and ends in Karnali zone.
Permit required for only Lower Dolpo and Phoksundo National Park fee.

  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

    As you fly into Kathmandu, the views of snow-capped mountain peaks greet you. A representative and driver from our office will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. The representative will help you check into your designated hotel. At the hotel you will be briefed about your daily activities.

  • Day 02: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj/ flight

    From Kathmandu we take a jeep or fly on any domestic carrier to Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj , a town in the western Terai , is very close to the Indian border and the Bardia Nationl Park. It is a major transport hub for western, mid-western and far-western regions of Nepal. Overnight at hotel or lodge.

  • Day 03: Drive Nepalgunj to Dang by Jeep

    From Nepalganj we take an overland jeep ride to Dang. Dang District falls in Rapti zone. The major population of this valley is of Tharu, an indigenous community.

  • Day 04: Dang to Chaurjari by jeep

    We continue our overland journey and drive to Chaurjari. There is an airport here. We stay overnight.

  • Day 05: Chaurjari to Rimna Camp

    Our trek starts from here. We take the trail from Chaurjari and reach Rimna Camp after trekking for around 5-6 hrs.

  • Day 06: Rimna to Gamras camp

    From Rimna camp we proceed to Gamras camp crossing beautiful forests of birch and oak.

  • Day 07: Gamras to Anna Camp

    From Gamras we trek for 5-6 hrs and reach Anna camp where we camp for the night.

  • Day 08: Anna to Karapghar

    From Anna we trek to Karapghar.

  • Day 09: Karapghar to Tripurakot

    Following a trail filled with dense jungles we reach the village of Tripurakot. This is an ancient village where the main attraction is a shrine of the Goddess Tripura.Hindu devotees from other villages come to this village to visit the shrine. The houses in this village have beautiful carved wooden windows.

  • Day 10: Tripurakot to Dunai

    From Tripurakot we trek for about 5 to 6 hrs to reach Dunai. Dunai has a village school, police check post and some government offices. It is also the administrative capital of Dolpo. We stay overnight in Dunai at Pala Guest House.

  • Day 11: Dunai to Tarakot

    From Dunai we proceed to Laban and cross the bridge across the Baglung Khola river. We continue along the banks of the river till we reach Tarakot. The picturesque village of Tarakot lies at the confluence of the Tarap and Baglung rivers.

  • Day 12: Tarakot to Lahini

    From Tarakot we trek to Kamigaon , the winter residence of the Dho Tarap people .We pass interesting scenery set amidst a wide valley where the Laskap and Tarap rivers meet. In the evening we reach Lahini, our camp for the night.

  • Day 13: Lahini to Pigo Cave

    From Lahini the trail becomes narrow and adventurous as we walk through in landslide and avalanches area. We set up camp at Pigo caves which are situated in a grassy area.

  • Day 14: Pigo Cave to Dho Tarap

    Today we approach the most difficult and dangerous part of the trek. The valley narrows, and we approach deep gorges and cross innumerable small bridges. We follow a path that is carved out of a rocky cliffside. Following an adventurous trail we reach Dho Tarap.

  • Day 15: Dho Tarap - rest day

    Today we spend a rest day at Dho Tarap. Dho Tarap is a large village decorated by colorful prayer flags. There are chortens, mani walls and monasteries. Villagers grow wheat, buck wheat, barley, potatoes and green vegetables in terraced fields. There are tea houses, shops with minimal supplies and lodges. The people closely resemble the Khampas of Tibet, the men with a ponytail and red tassel coiled around their head and the women with musk deer teeth necklaces.We will take a nature tour. Later on we will enjoy a cultural program where the villagers will present traditional Tibetan dances and songs, especially for us.

  • Day 16: Dho Tarap to Numala Base camp

    After visiting all the gompas and Chorten in Tarap valley we take the the trail that climbs up through grassy meadows filled with wild flowers to reach to Numala base camp. From the base camp we get a beautiful view of the distant Tibetan mountains and upper Tarap valley.

  • Day 17: Numala Base camp to Numala Pass/ 5190m- Bagala Base camp (Pelungthang)

    Today we cross Numala Pass and descend towards Poyon khola till we reach Bagala Base Camp surrounded by big glaciers and blade shaped rock cliffs. We stop for the night at Pelungtang ,a village surrounded by hills with temporary houses, yak pasture and terraces. For the first time you can see Topo Peak (4900m.) in panorama. The Norbukang Himal sparkles at the back.

  • Day 18: Pelungthang to Yak Kharka Crossing Bagala Pass/ 5070m

    We make our way to Yak Kharka via Bagala Pass. From the pass we get to enjoy the beautiful view of Kanjiroba massif. After Baga La the trails turn gentle down all the way to Yak Kharka. Yak Kharka is open grassland and grazing ground for yaks and sheep.

  • Day 19: Yak Kharka to Ringmo to Phoksundo Lake

    The trek to Phoksondo Lake (3728m.) via Ringmo (3730m.) takes about seven hours. From Yak Kharka till Ringmo the trail goes down hill. Ringmo is a small village inhabited by Gurung and Thakuri communities. We move along the flat land passing through pine forests, grassland, terraces, hills and villages. The views of Phoksundo Lake appear before you. After crossing a wooden bridge we reach our destination. Phoksundo Lake is the deepest lake of the world. The big village lying at the bank of this lake is quite rich in Buddhist culture as there are monasteries, chortens, mani walls, shops, prayer flags, hotels, lodges, terraces and so on. This village is beautifully surrounded by hills.

  • Day 20: Phoksundo - Rest Day

    Today we explore the area around the magnificent Phoksundo Lake. The lake is famous for its magnificent turquoise color and spectacular scenery. Ringmo village, which looks like a typical Tibetan village, is scenically nestled in the area. Many beautiful glaciers can be found near and above the lake area. There are many monasteries (Gompas ) and Bon-po religious sites at the park and we spend our time visiting some of these. The most famous, Shey Gompa was established in the 11th Century. Thashung Gompa located near Phoksundo Lake was built about 900 years ago. We will take a nature tour and explore the natural sites.

  • Day 21: Phoksundo to Pugmo Village

    From Phoksundo following a trail filled with beautiful scenery we trek to the village of Pungmo. The route enters birch and juniper forests. There are views of the Kanjiroba peak in the horizon above the barley fields of Pungmo,a fortress like village. We camp at this village.

  • Day 22: Pugmo Village to Lasa

    Today we follow a trail that skirts the Pungmo khola. A forest of blue pine opens up as the trail crosses the river on a wooden bridge. We ascend up and reach Lasa, which is a large grassy meadow filled with wildflowers.

  • Day 23: Lasa Kagmara Base camp Crossing Kagmara Pass/ (5115m)-

    The trail today has sweeping scree slopes and massive rock formations. We climb up and reach the Kagmara Pass at 5115m. We get spectacular views of the Kagmara Himal, Daulagiri, the Annapurnas, La Shamma and other snow-peaks, a fitting reward for our climb.We reach the Kagmara Base camp where we camp for the night.

  • Day 24: Kagmara base camp to Toijem

    We pass a series of waterfall and walk a picturesque trail past meadows filled with wildflowers .As we walk to the sound of twittering birds and the gurgling river we enjoy the panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks.We follow the trail of the Garpung khola and reach the village of Toijem. We camp near the army post.

  • Day 25: Toijem to Kaigaon Village

    The trail stays high above the river to the confluence where the Jagdula and Garpung rivers join to form the Bheri. We trek on the bank of the Bheri River, passing Hurikot. We reach the village of Kaigaon in the evening.

  • Day 26: Kaigaon to Chaurikot/ 3700m

    From Kaigaon we trek to Chaurikot, large Khampa village. Here you will meet villagers who dress like the Tibetans and follow similar customs and traditions.

  • Day 27: Chaurikot to Chorta/ 3200m

    After an interesting visit we make our way to Chorta. The inhabitants of this village are also Khampas. The village has typical Tibetan mani walls and a kani arching over the trail. An interesting feature of this village is, the presence of the Matwali Chettris whose major diety is the god Mastha.

  • Day 28: Chorta to Gothichaur

    From Chorta we trek to Gothichaur today, following a trail filled with forest of oaks, spruce, poplar and maples. We follow the Tila Khola and cross many villages inhabited by Tibetans, Thakkalis and Matwali Chettri s. We trek past the Tila valley till we large meadow, Gothi chaur.Gothi Chaur has a sheep breeding project. There are some 13th century Malla dynasty stone carvings at the spring here.

  • Day 29: Gothichaur to Jumla Khalanga bazaar

    From Gothichaur we make our way to Jumla. On the way we cross the Pattyata Pass at 2830m which has some lovely scenery. We pass terraced fields and water driven mills.Logs cut down by loggers float down the Chaudhabise river as we cross it. We cross the river on a cantilever bridge. We pass the confluence of the Tila abd Chaudha bise rivers and reach Jumla Khalanga bazaar.

  • Day 30: Fly Jumla to Nepalganj/ flight and Nepalgunj to Kathmandu/ flight

    We fly from Jumla to nepalganj and then to Kathmandu OR

  • Day 31: Jumla to Surkhet / Drive by jeep

    We drive from Jumla to Surkhet by jeep.

  • Day 32: Depart Kathmandu

    Our representative will drive you to the airport for your return flight.
